More so, those with curly or coiled hair may not necessarily wash quite often to preserve moisture, since their hair needs more hydration.

Also, Dr. Rubin advises that individuals with naturally dry or chemically treated hair do not need to wash their hair frequently to avoid over-drying their strands.

There is a common myth that frequently washing the hair causes further damage. Well, that is not completely true. Kingsley highlighted that hair damage is more likely to occur by constantly washing hair with harsh shampoos and rigorous washing techniques. She recommends focusing on the scalp rather than the strands when washing. To curb possible dryness or irritation, ensure to use shampoos with mild ingredients. Shampoos with ingredients like sulfates should be avoided.

Kingsley further highlights the importance of balancing serums and exfoliating pre-wash scalp masks that help manage scalp health and prepare hair for washing.  Double cleansing technique during shampooing is also important which ensures a thorough cleanse without over-stripping the hair.

Ascertaining the right hair care routine is a personal decision that involves a balance of understanding your hair type, lifestyle, and personal preferences. While some may enjoy daily washes, others may find longer intervals more suitable for them. Ensure to know what suits you best.
