The Fashion Faux Pas of 2024: People’s Choice Awards’ Worst Dressed

The People’s Choice Awards has become a playground for stars to showcase experimental and daring fashion choices. The 2024 People’s Choice Awards red carpet was no exception. Celebrities walked the prestigious carpet in outfits that spanned fashion spectacular to fashion flops. Along with some shimmering successes, there were clothing missteps causing double takes among the audience for all the wrong reasons. The fashion flops that made 2024 an event to remember—or perhaps one to forget—deserve a closer look.

Heidi Klum channeling Audrey Hepburn in a black mini dress adorned with pearls missed the chic elegance embodied by Audrey in ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s.’ Klum’s ensemble came across as trying without achieving the desired sophistication or class. The black and white train far from adding a touch of grandeur made the look of the outfit cheaper and disconnected.

The vibrant artist Ice Spice, who has come to be identified with bold style, dove onto the red carpet decked in a custom Dolce & Gabbana ensemble that missed the mark. Combining orange lace, fur trim, and leopard print cries fearless fashion. The Ice Spice ensemble instead ended as a confusing mishmash of textures and patterns that screamed chaotic and lacked coordination.

The woman adored in “Barbie,” America Ferrera, strutted up in a Coach outfit from the fall 2024 collection leaving everyone befuddled. A black bustier top paired with a huge pink organza skirt was thought to be a playful juxtaposition of dark and light. Instead, the Ferrera choice of fashion overwhelmed her figure and diminished her natural beauty. It will be remembered as one of the night’s memorable fashion misadventures, lacking harmony, style and thematic direction.

Then there was Kyle Richards of ‘The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.’ She opted for a green Retrofête dress that can only be described as unflattering. It was a strapless mini dress which was too short and too low-cut. It missed the turn for elegance and instead took the exit to unexplored tasteful territory.

The bright pink jumpsuit worn by Natasha Bedingfield was another ensemble that took a wrong turn from dressing room to red carpet at the 2024 People’s Choice Awards. The pattern failed to compliment. Worse was the lack of tailoring that highlighted a poor fit. It failed to enhance Bedingfield’s figure. It should be remembered as proof that even the boldest fashion risks are losers in the white hot lights of the red carpet.

Speaking of fashion losers, Tana Mongeau, Internet personality and actor Rachel Zegler both made the wrong fashion choices. Mongeau’s dress and Zegler’s sheer black mesh outfit were examples of how to attempt a bold statement and end up with a misfire. The choices of Mongeau and Zegler were inadequate for an event of this caliber. They were unaccompanied by a necessary finesse that could have pulled them off as boldly elegant with daring sophistication. They fell flat.

The lack of appeal awards go to Billie Eilish and Whitney Cumming. The Ellish ofttimes casual, oversized attire were out of place at an event where glamour is the name of the tune. The Cumming choice of a nude cocktail dress paired with neon heels was a mismatch. It failed to speak to the style of the evening and fell flat.

Fashion standouts like Zanna Roberts Rassi, along with celebrity Lenny Kravitz, were on the wrong side of fashion critique in 2024. Rassi was too stiff in a LaQuan Smith while the usually engaging look Kravitz sported a half-robotic ensemble. Both left fashion fans who attend wondering if 2025 will be a year of fashion flat instead of fashion forward.

The People’s Choice Awards 2024 will be remembered for its fashion hits and misses. The object of the night is to celebrate the best in entertainment, but the excitement and fashions of the red carpet are a major event. The People who vote for the award winners can only guess what fashion surprises will walk next year’s red carpet. Will the stars learn from their flops, or will we be treated to another round of unforgettable fashion faux pas? As Bob Dylan once said, “Time will tell just who has fell and who’s been left behind.” One thing is certain, the People’s Choice Awards will always be a night where fashion takes center stage, for better or for worse.
