Method
- Peel and slice large yellow or sweet onions into 1/2 to 3/4-inch thick rings, carefully separating them.
- In a small bowl, prepare the Sriracha. Using a brush or spoon, evenly coat both sides of each onion ring with Sriracha.
- Take one bacon slice and carefully wrap it around an Sriracha-coated onion ring, ensuring it's snug and the ends are tucked or secured with a toothpick if needed.
- Repeat with remaining onion rings and bacon until all are wrapped.
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3-5 minutes.
- Arrange the bacon-wrapped onion rings in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd; cook in batches if necessary to ensure even crisping.
- Air fry for 10-12 minutes, carefully flipping the rings halfway through the cooking process.
- Continue cooking until the bacon is crispy and golden brown, and the onion is tender. Adjust cooking time as needed, as air fryer models can vary.
- Carefully remove the finished bacon-wrapped onion rings from the air fryer.
- Serve hot immediately as a delicious appetizer or side dish.
Notes
For optimal results, select large, firm onions and slice them uniformly, about 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick, to ensure even cooking and easier wrapping. Use thin-cut bacon; if you prefer extra crispy bacon or to ensure even cooking, consider par-cooking the bacon slightly before wrapping. This also helps render some fat. Ensure bacon is tightly wrapped around the onion rings, securing the ends by tucking them under or using toothpicks. For an enhanced flavor profile, a touch of brown sugar or smoked paprika can be added to the Sriracha. When air frying, avoid overcrowding the basket to achieve maximum crispness; cook in batches and flip halfway through for uniform browning. Always monitor cooking closely as air fryer models vary in intensity.
