Ingredients

Main
  • 200 g pasta such as farfalle
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • large pinch of dried oregano
  • 1 tsp onion granules

Equipment

  • 1 Air Fryer
  • 1 Large Saucepan For boiling pasta
  • 1 Colander For draining pasta
  • 1 Mixing Bowl For tossing ingredients
  • 1 Measuring Spoons For spices

Method

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil.
  2. Add the pasta (such as farfalle) and cook according to package directions until truly al dente, about 7-8 minutes. It should be firm to the bite.
  3. Drain the cooked pasta thoroughly using a colander.
  4. Transfer the drained pasta to a large mixing bowl. Add the extra virgin olive oil, smoked paprika, ground cumin, dried oregano, and onion granules. Toss well to ensure all the pasta is evenly coated with the oil and spices.
  5. Preheat your air fryer to 180°C (350°F) for about 5 minutes.
  6. Working in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding, arrange the seasoned pasta in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
  7. Air fry for 10-12 minutes, shaking the basket or tossing the pasta gently halfway through, until the pasta chips are golden brown and crispy.
  8. Once cooked, remove the pasta chips from the air fryer.
  9. Serve immediately as a snack with your favorite dip, such as marinara or a creamy herb sauce.

Notes

Achieving the perfect crispness is paramount; ensure pasta is cooked truly al dente—firm to the bite—before tossing. Overcooked pasta will yield a chewy, rather than crispy, chip. For optimal texture and flavor, avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket; work in batches if necessary, allowing enough space for air circulation. This ensures even crisping and prevents steaming. A light spritz of olive oil halfway through cooking can enhance browning. Consider adding a pinch of garlic powder or nutritional yeast for an umami boost. Serve immediately with a vibrant marinara or a creamy herbed dip.
