Ingredients

Main
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons peanut butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 slices whole wheat bread
  • 1 Apple
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 1/8 Cup Water

Equipment

  • 1 Non-stick skillet or frying pan For toasting bread and sautéing apples
  • 1 Small Mixing Bowl For combining peanut butter mixture
  • 1 Paring Knife For coring and slicing apple
  • 1 Cutting Board
  • 1 Spatula For spreading and flipping

Method

  1. In a small bowl, combine peanut butter, brown sugar, and vanilla until well mixed.
  2. Core and thinly slice the apple into uniform pieces.
  3. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced apples, cinnamon, and 1/8 cup of water.
  4. Cook the apples, stirring occasionally, until softened and slightly caramelized, about 3-5 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  5. Wipe the skillet clean. Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter and melt over medium heat.
  6. Place the two slices of whole wheat bread in the skillet and toast until golden brown on both sides.
  7. Spread the prepared peanut butter mixture evenly on one side of each toasted bread slice.
  8. Arrange the warm spiced apple slices over one piece of the peanut butter-covered bread.
  9. Top with the second piece of peanut butter-covered bread, creating a sandwich.
  10. Serve immediately for the best experience.

Notes

1. For optimal flavor and texture, use a firm, crisp apple variety like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith. Slicing the apple thinly ensures even cooking and easier biting.2. Toasting the whole wheat bread in butter adds a rich, golden crust and prevents it from becoming soggy when assembled. 3. The addition of brown sugar and vanilla to the peanut butter enhances its depth and complements the spiced apples. Don't skip the water when sautéing apples; it helps create a tender, slightly caramelized texture without burning the butter.
